Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Reminiscenses of Manichaeism in Augustine’s City of God

open access: yesHTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies, 2016
This article aims to analyse all the passages in Augustine’s City of God in which he either explicitly or implicitly makes mention of Manichaeism and its doctrines. It turns out that, even in his later years, Manichaean doctrines were at the forefront of

Participation Cost Estimation: Private Versus Non-Private Study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
In our study, we seek to learn the real-time crowd levels at popular points of interests based on users continually sharing their location data. We evaluate the benefits of users sharing their location data privately and non-privately, and show that suitable privacy-preserving mechanisms provide incentives for user participation in a private study as ...

From the Private to the Public to the Private? Historicizing the Evolution of Public and Private Authority [PDF]

open access: yesIndiana Journal of Global Legal Studies, 2018
A central assumption in much contemporary scholarship is that a central shift has taken place over the course of the last four decades: a shift from a world largely centered on public authority to a world that is increasingly dominated by private authority.

Detection rate for ESR1 mutations is higher in circulating‐tumor‐cell‐derived genomic DNA than in paired plasma cell‐free DNA samples as revealed by ddPCR

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of ESR1 mutations in plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) is highly important for the selection of treatment in patients with breast cancer. Using multiplex‐ddPCR and identical blood draws, we investigated whether circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cfDNA provide similar or complementary information for ESR1 mutations.

Differentially Private Algorithms for Empirical Machine Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
An important use of private data is to build machine learning classifiers. While there is a burgeoning literature on differentially private classification algorithms, we find that they are not practical in real applications due to two reasons. First, existing differentially private classifiers provide poor accuracy on real world datasets. Second, there

Cystatin A promotes the antitumor activity of T helper type 1 cells and dendritic cells in murine models of pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a disease with very poor prognosis due to therapeutic limitations. We investigated the antitumor effects of cystatin A (CSTA) in PDAC murine models. We are first to confirm that CSTA enhances T helper type 1‐mediated antitumor effects through promotion of dendritic cells and M1 macrophage activity. CSTA can be

Is Private Browsing in Modern Web Browsers Really Private? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Web browsers are the most common tool to perform various activities over the internet. Along with normal mode, all modern browsers have private browsing mode. The name of the mode varies from browser to browser but the purpose of the private mode remains same in every browser.

Private Post-GAN Boosting [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Learning Representations, 2021, 2020
Differentially private GANs have proven to be a promising approach for generating realistic synthetic data without compromising the privacy of individuals. Due to the privacy-protective noise introduced in the training, the convergence of GANs becomes even more elusive, which often leads to poor utility in the output generator at the end of training ...
