Hong Kong's Governance Challenges in a New Age of Pro-Democracy Movement

open access: yesEast Asian Policy, 2015
The Umbrella Movement, which spelled an end to the Hong Kong democrats' gradual, reformist approach, is a turning point in the city's pro-democracy movement. Young Hong Kongers, already inclined to see themselves as Hong Kong people and not Chinese citizens, through this wave of protests have further estranged themselves from mainland China.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Meniscus Pixel Printing for Contact‐Lens Vision Sensing and Robotic Control

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A visual‐sensing contact lens is enabled by meniscus pixel printing (MPP), which rapidly patterns a 200 µm perovskite photodetector pixel in 1 s without masks, vacuum processing, or bulky equipment. A deep‐learning‐based super‐resolution reconstructs sparse on‐lens signals into 80 × 80 high‐resolution visual information, while AI‐driven eye‐tracking ...

Dispensing Volumetric Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dispensing volumetric additive manufacturing (DVAM) prints 3D structures inside a photocurable resin droplet suspended from the tip of a glass pipette, enabling sequential printing without resin vats or manual part removal. Real‐time droplet profiling and ray‐tracing‐based correction compensate for optical distortion at the curved resin‐air interface ...

Auxeticity‐by‐Assembly: Interlocking Modular Auxetic Metamaterials with Selectively Activatable AgNW–Graphene Oxide‐EGaIn Composite Interconnects for Scalable Freeform Photovoltaic Modules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Auxeticity‑by‑Assembly converts freeform photovoltaics from cut‑defined layouts to assembly‑defined systems. Standardized interlocking units generate negative‑Poisson‑ratio, reconfigurable architectures, while hinge regions are wired by selectively activatable AgNW–GO@EGaIn composite interconnects and a folding‑enabled interconnector layer. A decimeter‑

Varieties of Constitutional Experience: Democracy and the Marriage Equality Campaign [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Beginning in the 1970s, the overwhelming success of anti-gay ballot questions made direct democracy the most powerful bête noire of the LGBT rights movement.

Biocompatible but Antibacterial Mechanism of Graphene Oxide for Sustainable Antibiotics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene oxide (GO) exhibits selective antibacterial activity through specific interactions between its oxygen functional groups and bacterial membrane phospholipid POPG, causing membrane destabilization while maintaining biocompatibility. Model membrane studies and infected wound models in mice and pigs demonstrate effective bacterial suppression and ...
