Abstract Since Rizzi’s influential work (1986a) on pro-drop, it has been generally assumed that null subject pronouns pattern together depending on their u-role. The idea is that null pronouns bearing a full u-role need more con- tent identification than null pronouns bearing a quasi-u-role or no u-role at all (section 8.1).
