Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

The Effect of Pro-Environmental Destination Image on Resident Environmental Citizenship Behavior: The Mediating Roles of Satisfaction and Pride

open access: yesLand
Despite the lengthy history of the research on destination image from various perspectives, how pro-environmental destination image promotes resident environmental citizenship behavior remains underexplored. Grounded in the cognition–affect–behavior (CAB)

Motivation crowding in environmental protection: Evidence from an artefactual field experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper examines how motivation, crowding and social image affect environmental conservation decisions. An artefactual field experiment conducted in Bolivia is used to reproduce the trade-off between individual and social benefits in natural resource ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Local is not always better: the impact of climate information on values, behavior and policy support [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In the current research, we experimentally examined the effect of providing local or global information about the impacts of climate change on individuals’ perceived importance of climate change and on their willingness to take action to address it ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Life goals predict environmental behavior: cross-cultural and longitudinal evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Prioritizing intrinsic life goals (self-development, community involvement, relationships) rather than extrinsic ones (money, fame, image) is said to foster not only personal wellbeing, but also pro-social behavior such as protecting the environment.
