A Simple Sign-Bit Probabilistic Shaping Scheme [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Communications Letters, 2022
We propose a new shaping scheme for the Gaussian channel whose complexity is approximately half the one of a binary distribution matcher (DM). The result is obtained as follows: We first show that most of the shaping gain can be obtained via a simplified version of sign-bit shaping, which uses only two non-uniform binary sources.

Design and Performance Analysis of Probabilistically Shaped QAM Signals for Coherent FSO Systems with Gamma-Gamma Turbulence Channels

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Probabilistic shaping (PS) is a promising technique to approach the Shannon limit. In this paper, we design a practical coded modulation scheme based on PS to improve the capacity of coherent free-space optical (FSO) links with quadrature amplitude ...

EMF-Aware Probabilistic Shaping Design for Hardware-Distorted Communication Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Communications and Networks, 2022
The fifth-generation cellular network requires dense installation of radio base stations (BS) to support the ever-increasing demands of high throughput and coverage. The ongoing deployment has triggered some health concerns among the community.

Probabilistic Constellation Shaping for Molecular Communications

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Communications, 2023
Molecular communication (MC) is an emerging field aiming at realizing information exchange via chemical signals between nanomachines in nanonetworks. Information transmission that is energy-efficient and relies on relatively low-complexity transceiver techniques is of practical importance for MC systems. Based on the fact that constellation shaping can

Probabilistic shaping and non-binary codes [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), 2017
We generalize probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) with binary codes to the case of non-binary codes defined over prime finite fields. Firstly, we introduce probabilistic shaping via time sharing where shaping applies to information symbols only. Then, we design circular quadrature amplitude modulations (CQAM) that allow to directly generalize PAS to ...

Complete probabilistic analysis of RNA shapes [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2006
Abstract Background Soon after the first algorithms for RNA folding became available, it was recognised that the prediction of only one energetically optimal structure is insufficient to achieve reliable results.

Blind Carrier Phase Recovery Using Extended Kalman Filtering in Probabilistically Shaped Coherent Systems

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
In this paper, we propose an Extended Kalman Filtering with phase noise reconstruction (EKF-PC) scheme to enhance the carrier recovery capability for probabilistic shaping of coherent optical communication systems with various shaping factors.

Two-Dimensional Constellation Shaping in Fiber-Optic Communications

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Constellation shaping has been widely used in optical communication systems. We review recent advances in two-dimensional constellation shaping technologies for fiber-optic communications. The system architectures that are discussed include probabilistic
