Probabilities of Conditionals and Conditional Probabilities

The Philosophical Review, 1976
Abstract In this paper, the view that probabilities of conditionals are conditional probabilities is rejected on the grounds that there is no satisfactory way of interpreting a conditional connective such that the probabilities of conditionals will equal appropriate conditional probabilities.

Probability and Probability Distributions

1972
In Chapter 1 we showed that the science of statistics is concerned with the interpretation of experimental results from random systems. One of the most important tools used in the development of the subject is a branch of mathematics called the Theory of Probability.

Filtered Probability

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2001
In this paper, the author presents his theory of filtered random variables, which provides in particular an interpolation between non-commutative probabilistic settings such as Boolean and free probability. Given a family of noncommutative probability spaces of the form \((\widehat{\mathcal A} , \widehat{\varphi}) = (\bigotimes_{l\in L} {\mathcal A}_l ,

Probability and Likelihood

2004
This chapter begins with a concise primer, or aide memoire, of probability theory. The fundamentals are recapitulated, drawing on the material of Chap. 4. Moments of distributions are reviewed. The theory of runs (successions of similar events preceded and succeeded by different events), which is useful for analysing nucleic acid sequences and series ...

On Indeterminate Probabilities

The Journal of Philosophy, 1974
Some men disclaim certainty about anything. I am certain that they deceive themselves. Be that as it may, only the arrogant and foolish maintain that they are certain about everything. It is appropriate, therefore, to consider how judgments of uncertainty discriminate between hypotheses with respect to grades of uncertainty, probability, belief, or ...
