The Alpha-Logarithmic Series Distribution of Order [PDF]
Here we develop an order k version of the alpha-logarithmic series distribution of Kumar and Riyaz (South African Statist. J., 2014) through its probability generating function and derive its probability mass function, mean and variance.

Probability of Boundary Conditions in Quantum Cosmology [PDF]
One of the main interest in quantum cosmology is to determine boundary conditions for the wave function of the universe which can predict observational data of our universe.

Ruling out QCD phase transition as a PBH origin of LIGO/Virgo events
The best-motivated scenario for a sizable primordial black hole (PBH) contribution to the LIGO/Virgo binary black hole mergers invokes the QCD phase transition, which naturally enhances the probability to form PBH with masses of stellar scale.

Eclipsing Binaries Showing Light Time Effect
Four eclipsing binaries, which show apparent changes of period, have been studied with respect to a possible presence of the light time effect. With a least squares method we calculated new light elements of these systems, the mass function of the ...

Applications of Fuss-Catalan Numbers to Success Runs of Bernoulli Trials
In a recent paper, the authors derived the exact solution for the probability mass function of the geometric distribution of order k, expressing the roots of the associated auxiliary equation in terms of generating functions for Fuss-Catalan numbers ...

An alternative hyper-Poisson distribution
An alternative form of hyper-Poisson distribution is introduced through its probability mass function and studies some of its important aspects such as mean, variance, expressions for its raw moments, factorial moments, probability generating function ...

Estimating a probability mass function with unknown labels
In the context of a species sampling problem we discuss a non-parametric maximum likelihood estimator for the underlying probability mass function. The estimator is known in the computer science literature as the high profile estimator. We prove strong consistency and derive the rates of convergence, for an extended model version of the estimator.

The Luminosity Function of Galaxies as modeled by a left truncated beta distribution
A first new luminosity functions of galaxies can be built starting from a left truncated beta probability density function, which is characterized by four parameters.
