Moving from probiotics to precision probiotics
Nature Microbiology, 2020A precision approach to probiotics could address the heterogeneity inherent to probiotic strains, the hosts and their microbiomes. Here, we discuss the steps required to develop precision probiotics: mechanistic studies, phenotypic and target-based discovery strategies, and person-centric trials.

Ample research has described multiple biological activities of probiotics in animals and in humans. Probiotics interfere with local and systemic immune reactions and thus exert an influence on the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa. Therefore, attempting inflammatory bowel disease treatment with probiotics seems reasonable.

13.1 % (95 % CI: 0.8–25.3 %) [3]. These data need to be interpreted with caution as most of the studies were not from LMIC (low middle income countries) and there was marked variability across the studies, such as use of different strains, variable doses, and different breast feeding and dietary practices.

To provide an updated perspective on the use of probiotics as adjuvant treatment strategy for patients suffering from or at risk of developing mucositis.Studies suggest that oral and intestinal microbiota could be relevant to mucositis development and treatment, but no clear high-risk pattern has been identified and no single probiotic formulation has ...

Probiotics in gastroenterology
Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, 2002Recent evidence has suggested the potential therapeutic role for probiotics in the prevention or treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. Several studies have shown that probiotics are of benefit in gastrointestinal infections, including viral diarrhea, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea, and antibiotic-associated diarrhea ...
