Full decomposition of phenotypic variance in dichotomous traits: New methods and key implications for behaviour, demography and evolutionary ecology

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Numerous traits that define behaviour, development, life‐history and species ecology are expressed as dichotomous alternative phenotypes (e.g. morphological and behavioural polyphenisms, reproductive vs. non‐reproductive states, movement vs. philopatry).

Quantifying species distribution within the functional space

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Multidimensional representations of functional diversity help visualize species and organism distribution in functional space, providing insights into the mechanisms regulating community assembly and ecosystem functioning. Typically, the species distributions in functional space are represented by richness, divergence (or dispersion) and ...

Deep quantile regression for growth and maturation reaction norms

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Understanding species' growth and maturation responses to anthropogenic and environmental pressures is crucial for tracking demographic shifts, phenotypic change and ensuring population sustainability. Traditional regression methods often focus on modelling the conditional mean of life‐history traits, potentially overlooking heterogeneity in ...

Lawyer CEOs and Strategic Disclosure of Litigation Loss Contingencies

open access: yesAbacus, EarlyView.
Using hand‐collected data, we find that lawyer CEOs, defined as CEOs with a legal education background, tend to make first disclosures about pending litigation cases on a timelier basis for litigation cases that end up with material losses than do non‐lawyer CEOs.
