The Role of Autobiographical Memory in Social Problem-Solving

open access: yes, 1997
This thesis presents five studies which examine the role ofautobiographical memory in social problem-solving. All studies examinedsocial problem-solving ability with the Means-End Problem-Solving (MEPS;J. J. Platt & G.

Should action be awarded a special status in learning? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The role of action has been strongly emphasized, not only in cognitive research on learning and problem solving, but also in education and instructional psychology.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Problem-solving in geometry in collaborative small group Settings: how learner’s appropriate mathematical tools while working in small groups.

open access: yes, 2011
Doctor EducationisProblem-solving in Mathematics is an important skill. The poor perforrnance of South African learners in international tests such as the Trends in Intemational Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and in schools in general indicates ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

CAPITAL-SKILL COMPLEMENTARITY AND STEADY-STATE GROWTH [PDF]

open access: yes
We construct a general-equilibrium version of Krusell, Ohanian, Ríos-Rulland Violante’s (2000) model with capital-skill complementarity. To account forgrowth patterns observed in the data, we assume several sources of growthsimultaneously, specifically ...

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.
