Immigration, Criminalization, and Disobedience [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This symposium essay explores two contending visions of immigration justice: one focused on expanding procedural rights for immigrants, and a second associated with a movement of immigrant youth who have come out en masse as “undocumented and unafraid ...

Vacuum‐Formed Composites Based on a Polyolefin and a High Content of Biomass‐Waste Fillers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown here that by the use of a very ductile polymer matrix, it is possible to vacuum‐form products that contain up to 25% of hard biofillers with still ductile properties. The results are promising and opens up for the use of engineered biocomposites derived from industrial side‐stream biofillers in vacuum‐formed products. A strategy to increase

Microstructural and Mechanical Properties of a Hard Anodic Coating Applied on an Elastically Prestrained Aluminum Substrate

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Prestraining the substrate influences coating formation process. Higher prestraining force leads to higher coating thickness and lower hardness. Increase in prestraining force enhances preliminary damage in hard anodic coating. Fatigue damage mechanisms change for hard anodized prestrained samples.

Powder Metallurgy Preparation of Metastable β Ti–Cr–Ge Alloys for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops metastable β Ti–Cr–Ge alloys using powder metallurgy for biomedical implants. The Ti–10Cr–2Ge alloy exhibits superior mechanical performance with high yield strength (>1100 MPa), low Young's modulus (<85 GPa), and excellent strain hardening behavior.

Expediency, Legitimacy, and the Rule of Law: A Systems Perspective on Civil/Criminal Procedural Hybrids

open access: yes, 2017
In recent years an increasing quantity of UK legislation has introduced blended or ‘hybridised’ procedures that blur the previously clear demarcation between civil and criminal legal processes, typically on the grounds of normatively-motivated political ...

Sol–Gel Synthesis of Ca2.5Ag0.3Sm0.2Co4O9 Semiconducting Materials for Thermoelectric Applications in Aerospace Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ca2.5Ag0.3Sm0.2Co4O9 semiconductor materials are synthesized and produced in this study using the sol–gel and cold pressing techniques for thermoelectric generator applications. As template samples are added, the Seebeck coefficient and power factor values rise, peaking at 800 °C for Ca2.5Ag0.3Sm0.2Co4O9 at 274.47 μV K−1 and 0.58 mW mK−2, respectively.

Comparative Study of Experimental Methods for Measuring Thermal Properties of 100Cr6 Steel Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the thermal properties of 100Cr6 steel in both bulk and powder forms. Measuring the very low thermal conductivity typically exhibited by powders poses significant challenges. To address this, two novel measurement techniques—temperature gradient and finite laser pulse response—are introduced and evaluated by comparison with the ...
