NL-Means and aggregation procedures
2009 16th IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2009Patch based denoising methods, such as the NL-Means, have emerged recently as simple and efficient denoising methods. This paper provides a new insight on those methods by showing their connection with recent statistical aggregation techniques. Within this aggregation framework, we propose some novel patch based denoising methods.

Distinctions in procedural meaning
International Review of Pragmatics, 2019Abstract The current paper aims to investigate the distinctions in meaning between two prototypical markers of contrast in Modern Greek, i.e. alla and ma, from a relevance-theoretic viewpoint. At first sight, the two markers seem freely interchangeable across contexts, creating the impression that they basically share the same meaning.

Poly-procedural meaning and rhetoric
Pragmatics & Cognition, 2019AbstractThe current paper aims to explore the meaning of one of the most elusive discourse markers in Modern Greek rhetorical discourse:afu. To address the challenge of a thorough and parsimonious account, the relevance-theoretic model of meaning analysis is deployed. The analysis undertaken ultimately reveals that the marker at hand encodes procedural

Three Multiple Comparison Procedures for Trimmed Means
Biometrical Journal, 1995AbstractTwo common goals when choosing a method for performing all pairwise comparisons of J independent groups are controlling experiment wise Type I error and maximizing power. Typically groups are compared in terms of their means, but it has been known for over 30 years that the power of these methods becomes highly unsatisfactory under slight ...

Analysis of Means—A Graphical Procedure
Journal of Quality Technology, 1983The methods of analysis described in this article are an extension of Shewhart control chart techniques. They tend to encourage the design of experiments and are an effective method of presenting the findings. They involve dealing directly with means in..

Some Inference Procedures for Monotonically Ordered Normal Means
Biometrika, 1977SUMMARY This paper determines a limiting distribution of the estimated maximum and range of a set of monotonically ordered normal means when all means are in fact equal. The upper percentiles of the studentized distributions are tabulated. These percentiles can be used as critical values in tests of hypotheses concerning monotonically ordered normal ...

Meaning‐Inferencing Versus Meaning‐Given Procedures: The Case of Idioms
Language LearningAbstract Inferring the meaning of words and then verifying one's interpretations is widely believed to create relatively strong memories of the items. According to the available research, it is when the inferences are accurate that the learning outcomes are the most promising.
