Lambda Calculus in Core Aldwych [PDF]
Core Aldwych is a simple model for concurrent computation, involving the concept of agents which communicate through shared variables. Each variable will have exactly one agent that can write to it, and its value can never be changed once written, but a ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The impact of cloud computing security on business operations [PDF]
: Cloud computing is a novel platform which affords users the opportunity to exploit the best that Information Technology (IT) infrastructure, platforms and software offer at a fraction of the cost to acquire such resources.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Using Java for Parallel Computing: JCSP versus CTJ [PDF]
Java provides support for concurrent and parallel programming through threads, monitors and its socket and Remote Method Invocation (RMI) classes. However, there have been many concerns expressed about the way in which this support is provided, e.g., [1][

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Multi-dimensional Point Process Models in R [PDF]
A software package for fitting and assessing multidimensional point process models using the R statistical computing environment is described. Methods of residual analysis based on random thinning are discussed and implemented.
