Process Mining and Simulation

2009
So far we have seen how workflow models can be defined in YAWL and how the YAWL workflow engine allows a model to drive business processes. Once such a model becomes operational, the Engine automatically logs activity, keeping track of task start and completion events, their time of occurrence, the resources involved, and so on (cf. Chap. 9, Sect. 9.7).

Simulating Industrial Processes

2021
An approach to modelling business processes as a queueing model is described. The model is examined and used to demonstrate how questions can be posed that enhance the understanding a system. The model is then translated into a simulator that represents the system, producing results to a variety of questions that are useful for operations management.

When to automate software testing? A decision‐support approach based on process simulation

J. Softw. Evol. Process., 2015
Software test processes are complex and costly. To reduce testing effort without compromising effectiveness and product quality, automation of test activities has been adopted as a popular approach in software industry.

Business Process Simulation

International Journal of Enterprise Information Systems, 2006
This paper discusses the idea that even though information systems development (ISD) approaches have long advocated the use of integrated organisational views, the modelling techniques used have not been adapted accordingly and remain focused on the automated information system (IS) solution.

Business Process Simulation Revisited

2010
Computer simulation attempts to "mimic" real-life or hypothetical behavior on a computer to see how processes or systems can be improved and to predict their performance under different circumstances. Simulation has been successfully applied in many disciplines and is considered to be a relevant and highly applicable tool in Business Process Management

Process simulation vs. system simulation

1998 IEEE Information Technology Conference, Information Environment for the Future (Cat. No.98EX228), 2002
Simulation has been used successfully for years to improve system design and management. With the emphasis on process improvement in all aspects of a business, simulation is being recognized as a tool that can be of significant benefit. Simulation helps maximize process performance before a process is implemented.

Software Process Simulation

2012
This chapter introduces software process simulation as a means to amend and complement empirical studies, for example, to evaluate changing contexts and to analyze process dynamics. It introduces two types of simulation models, namely continuous and discrete-event models, as well as their combination in hybrid models.
