The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Measuring and Visualizing Healthcare Process Variability

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Informatics
Understanding factors that contribute to clinical variability in patient care is critical, as unwarranted variability can lead to increased adverse events and prolonged hospital stays. Determining when this variability becomes excessive can be a step in optimizing patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency.Explore the association between clinical ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The D-optimal design of blocked and split-plot experiments with mixture components. [PDF]

open access: yes
So far, the optimal design of blocked and split-plot experiments involving mixture components has received scant attention. In this paper, an easy method to construct efficient blocked mixture experiments in the presence of fixed and/or random blocks is ...

Probability Tail for Linearly Negative Quadrant Dependent Random Variables of Partial Sums and Application to Linear Model

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences, 2022
In this paper, we establish a new concentration inequality and complete convergence of weighted sums for arrays of rowwise linearly negative quadrant dependent (LNQD, in short) random variables and obtain a result dealing with complete convergence of ...

Visualising Healthcare Process Variability

open access: yes
Two similar patients undergoing the same procedure might follow different pathways inside a hospital. Some of this variation is expected, but too much variation is associated with increased adverse events. Currently, there are no standard methods to establish when variability for any given clinical process becomes excessive.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Concise Process Improvement Methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This thesis reviews two methodologies for process improvement; Six Sigma and the Shainin System. A strengthened methodology is developed following the 12-step Six Sigma DMAIC cycle with an added Shainin loop in the Analyse phase to narrow down sources ...

Discovering branching conditions from business process execution logs

open access: yes, 2013
Process mining is a family of techniques to discover business process models and other knowledge of business processes from event logs. Existing process mining techniques are geared towards discovering models that capture the order of execution of tasks,

Synthesis of layered double hydroxides: Investigating the impact of stirring conditions and reactor design parameters

open access: yesHeliyon
The synthesis by coprecipitation of Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) is governed by the stages of nucleation and crystal growth associated with the efficiency of the mixing and dispersion process of the reagents.
