Ultrasonography as a non‐invasive technique to assess the effects of diet on the ovaries of female European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 109, Issue 1, Page 531-541, July 2026.
Abstract Broodstock management in aquaculture aims to optimise larval production to meet farm demand, which requires precise monitoring of the reproductive cycle. Traditional methods such as histology often require killing of fish, making them unsuitable for monitoring reproductive dynamics at fish level.

Hybridization, Maternal Inheritance, and Evolutionary Time of Divergence of Endangered Species of Hypancistrus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) in the Xingu River [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
We uncover recent hybridization dynamics among three endemic Hypancistrus species from the Xingu River, including the critically endangered H. zebra. Mitogenomic analyses reveal unidirectional maternal inheritance and recent evolutionary radiation (< 0.5 Ma), explaining their retained reproductive compatibility.
