Astragalus ecomorphology in Quaternary elephantids

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The astragalus plays a fundamental role in the graviportal locomotion of proboscideans, reflecting the biomechanical constraints imposed by large body masses. This study analyses the morphological variability of the astragalus in Quaternary elephantids using linear biometry and 3D geometric morphometrics, incorporating an unpublished ...

From Highlands to Henge: Refining the Provenance and Transport Pathways of Stonehenge's Altar Stone

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Altar Stone, the 6000 kg central sandstone megalith at Stonehenge in southern England, is suggested to have originated from the Orcadian Basin in northeast Scotland, some 700 km away. However, its source location within this large basin remains unresolved and its mode of transport uncertain.

The morphological study of transcaspian marinka (Schizothorax pelzami) in Harirud and Dasht-e Kavir basins using the geometric morphometric technique

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2020
This study was conducted to understand the morphological variation of four populations of Schizothorax pelzami from Iranian inland waters. For this purpose, a total of 81 specimens were collected from the Bidvaz, Cheshmeh-Ali, Kalat and Aal rivers. After

Three dimensional geometric morphometric study of the Ethiopian Myomys - Stenocephalemys complex (Murinae, Rodentia)

open access: yesHystrix, the Italian Journal of Mammalogy, 2000
Abstract Geometric morphometrics was used to investigate the Ethiopian Myomys - Stenocephalemys complex, and to suggest possible explanations for differences in size and shape.

Macroscale Gradient‐Informed Neural Oscillation Topography in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by large‐scale disruptions in beta and gamma oscillations. Although subcortical beta power is an established biomarker for current adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS), it may not fully capture the global pathophysiological burden and the macroscale hierarchical reorganization of the ...

On the compatibility of single‐scan terrestrial LiDAR with digital photogrammetry and field inventory metrics of vegetation structure in forest and agroforestry landscapes

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The single‐scan approach to terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and the self‐terrain‐normalized form of drone‐based digital aerial photogrammetry (DAP) offer practical options for rapid assessment of the vegetation structure in tropical landscapes.

Mapping the Conformational Landscape of DNA Minicircles Through Atomic Force Microscopy and Shape Space Analysis

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
An automated framework is presented for quantifying DNA conformational variability from atomic force microscopy (AFM) images. DNA backbones are reduced to spline representations and analyzed using cyclic Procrustes analysis to measure shape similarity across ensembles.

Gut microbiota dysbiosis and Long COVID susceptibility in chronic kidney disease

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
This study investigated gut microbiota dysbiosis and its association with Long COVID susceptibility in 224 hemodialysis patients. We found that 35.3% of patients developed Long COVID, characterized by neurological symptoms and elevated inflammatory markers, accompanied by significant gut microbiota alterations including enriched proinflammatory taxa ...
