Effects of High Intensity Ultrasound Stimulation on the Germination Performance of Caper Seeds [PDF]

open access: yesPlants, 2023
The caper bush has developed different mechanisms to survive in Mediterranean conditions, such as drought tolerance and seed dormancy. Many studies have been carried out to improve the germination of caper seeds, but ultrasound is one of the least ...

Pubertal development and hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis are altered in male mice lacking Mecp2 [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neuroendocrinol
Abstract Mutations in the MECP2 gene, encoding the epigenetic reader Methyl‐CpG binding protein 2, are the main cause of Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder. Besides severe symptoms such as profound intellectual disability, loss of speech and motor skills, and epilepsy, loss of function of MECP2 has been associated with pubertal ...

AAV-mediated expression of secreted and transmembrane αKlotho isoforms rescues relevant aging hallmarks in senescent SAMP8 mice. [PDF]

open access: yesAging Cell, 2022
Intraventricular administration of AAV vectors expressing secreted and transmembrane Klotho isoforms, rescued accelerated aging phenotype of SAMP8 mice. An improvement in cognitive and physical performance, recovery of epigenetic, inflammatory and senescence markers, as well as structural changes in long bones of these mice was detected.

Advances in gene therapy for Lafora disease: Intravenous recombinant adeno-associated virus-mediated delivery of EPM2A and EPM2B genes. [PDF]

open access: yesClin Transl Med
Intravenous gene therapy with rAAV2/9P31 vectors delivering EPM2A or EPM2B reversed Lafora disease pathology and restored neuronal function in two mouse models. The approach showed comparable or superior efficacy to intracerebroventricular delivery, with no long‐term toxicity, supporting its translational potential.

Downstream process design for Gag HIV‐1 based virus‐like particles

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 120, Issue 9, Page 2672-2684, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Virus‐like particles‐based vaccines have been gaining interest in recent years. The manufacturing of these particles includes their production by cell culture followed by their purification to meet the requirements of its final use. The presence of host cell extracellular vesicles represents a challenge for better virus‐like particles ...

Intra‐tooth isotopic analysis (δ13C and δ15N) of dentine collagen in high‐crowned teeth: A new experimental study with modern sheep specimens

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 962-975, September/October 2022., 2022
Abstract Hypsodont teeth molars develop in a short lapse of time. Both dentine and enamel dental tissues do not regenerate once formed. This fact allows the reconstruction of isotopic sequences covering short moments of the individual's life span, a useful approach in current zooarchaeological and paleontological studies.

Feeding the City and Making the Revolution: Women and Urban Agriculture in Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939)

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 54, Issue 4, Page 1021-1042, July 2022., 2022
Abstract The everyday difficulties faced by working‐class women, including access to food, are aggravated in critical periods, such as wars and economic crises. However, the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) was accompanied by a revolution, in the Republican zones, where women opened spaces for their emancipation. By examining social reproduction practices
