Accuracy Improvement in the LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS Measurement of 87Sr/86Sr in Bioapatite Using Dentin of Carcharinus leucas (Bull shark) to Estimate 87Rb/85Rb Instrument Induced Fractionation

Key Points Accurate 87Sr/86Sr measurement by LA‐MC‐ICP‐MS requires an appraisal of 87Rb/85Rb instrument induced fractionation, βRb. βRb can be calculated from the analysis of shark dentin with known 87Sr/86Sr composition and applied to unknown samples. Highly accurate 87Sr/86Sr isotope ratios were obtained from modern and fossil bioapatite samples.
