Economic analysis of production bottlenecks [PDF]
The management of bottlenecks has become a central topic in the planning and control of production systems. In this paper, we critically analyze bottlenecks from an economic perspective. Using a queueing network model, we demonstrate that bottlenecks are inevitable when there are differences in job arrival rates, processing rates, or costs of ...

Adaptive Twisting Metamaterials
This work introduces torque‐controlled twisting metamaterials as a transformative platform for adaptive crashworthiness. By combining multiscale predictive modeling with experimental validation on additively manufactured gyroids, it demonstrates tunable stiffness, collapse stress, and energy absorption.

Economic hysteresis in hog production [PDF]
German hog production only responds in a very limited way to price fluctuations in the pork market. The hog production concentrates on a few regions though it is not bound to special natural conditions such as soil quality. Furthermore, the volume of production does not vary over time. Relatively high market risks, sunk costs and the flexibility of the

Advanced Porous Materials for Maritime Carbon Capture
Carbon capture from emission sources, such as marine vessels, has attracted significant attention over the years. To achieve this goal, sorbents such as metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), porous polymer networks (PPNs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and their post‐synthetic modifications are currently being explored.
