The impact of reactive power generation in PV systems on their yearly production of electrical energy [PDF]

open access: yesRE&PQJ
The paper deals with photovoltaic (PV) systems able to generate reactive power and to curtail active power generation. Based on measurements performed on an existing PV system over 10 years its typical yearly operation profile is determined. It is used to evaluate the ability of the PV system to generate reactive power.

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

Potential of Renewable Energy in Jamaica’s Power Sector: Feasibility Analysis of Biogas Production for Electricity Generation

open access: yesSustainability, 2022
Jamaica is heavily dependent on fossil fuels to meet its energy demand and is currently seeking to reduce consumption. Accordingly, it is essential to investigate the expansion of renewable energy systems to achieve its 2030 renewable energy goal of 50%, with 70% diversification in energy types, as outlined in the National Energy Policy 2009–2030. This

Icephobic Gradient Polymer Coatings Coupled with Electromechanical De‐icing Systems: A Promising Ice Repellent Hybrid System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid system for de‐icing made of gradient polymer coatings, deposited on aluminum coupled with an electromechanical system, is demonstrated as an effective and durable strategy for reducing drastically ice adhesion. The system is capable of detaching ice blocks over the coating in less than 1 s, regardless of the ice type and covered area ...

Influence of Cooling Rate on Primary Silicon Size in Hypereutectic Al–Si Alloy Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Al–Si alloys are particularly in demand for automotive and electronic applications, thanks to their excellent wear and thermal properties. Nevertheless, when processed by conventional methods with low cooling rates, the coarse primary Si phases are responsible for increasing brittleness and inducing crack propagation.
