Consistency of endothelial function across two consecutive oral contraceptive pill cycles
Abstract Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs), composed of an active pill (AP; synthetic hormone) and a placebo pill (PP; synthetic hormone‐free) phase, might impact endothelial function across the OCP cycle depending on the synthetic hormone composition (type and dose).

Abstract Excessive cardiorespiratory responses to CO2 are a hallmark of panic disorder (PD). Female sex and exposure to early life stress are risk factors for PD. Neonatal maternal separation (NMS; 3 h/day, postnatal days 3–12) augments the ventilatory response to CO2 by ∼35% relative to controls; this effect is most notable during pro‐oestrus but is ...

Abstract The sex hormones progesterone (P) and oestrogen (E) reorganize GABAergic transmission in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) during the transition from childhood to adolescence, generating a new excitatory–inhibitory balance necessary for the computational capacity of the mature PFC.

Elevated cortisol concentration in preterm sheep fetuses impacts heart development
Abstract The prepartum rise in cortisol promotes cardiac development and maturation. Here, we investigated the impact of elevated circulating cortisol during mid‐late gestation on cardiac growth and metabolism in fetal sheep. Saline or cortisol (2–3 mg in 4.4 mL/24 h) was infused into the fetal jugular vein from 109 to 116 days gestation (dG, term ...

Inhibitory effect of oestradiol on the cardiac KV7.1/KCNE1 channel is species dependent
Abstract Oestradiol (17β‐E2) is reported to prolong the cardiac action potential duration and QT interval, in part by affecting cardiac ion channels. Previous studies found inhibiting 17β‐E2 effects on the repolarizating cardiac KV7.1/KCNE1 channel, or its native current, in heterologous expression systems or tissue from animal species.
