Ice streams are sites of ice-sheet drainage and together with other processes, such as calving, have an impact on deglaciation rates and ice-sheet mass balance.

Late Pleistocene glacial terminations accelerated by proglacial lakes
Abstract. During the glacial cycles of the past 800 000 years, Eurasia and North America were periodically covered by large ice sheets, causing up to 100 m of sea-level change. While Late Pleistocene glacial cycles typically lasted 80 000–120 000 years, the termination phases were completed in only 10 000 years.

Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Shapes Proglacial Lakes Over Glacial Cycles [PDF]
AbstractAs ice sheets load Earth's surface, they produce ice‐marginal depressions which, when filled with meltwater, become proglacial lakes. We include self‐consistently evolving proglacial lakes in a glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) model and apply it to the Laurentide ice sheet over the last glacial cycle.

The glaciers on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) constitute critical sources of water for the proglacial lakes and many rivers found downstream. To better understand the evolution of glaciers and the impact of this on proglacial lakes, seven glaciers ...

Brief communication: Subglacial lake drainage beneath Isunguata Sermia, West Greenland: geomorphic and ice dynamic effects [PDF]
We report three active subglacial lakes within 2 km of the lateral margin of Isunguata Sermia, West Greenland, identified by differencing time-stamped ArcticDEM strips.

Mid-Miocene cooling and the extinction of tundra in continental Antarctica [PDF]
A major obstacle in understanding the evolution of Cenozoic climate has been the lack of well dated terrestrial evidence from high-latitude, glaciated regions.

Controls on Alpine Lake Dynamics, Tien Shan, Central Asia
The number and area of alpine lakes in Tien Shan (TS) are rapidly growing in response to a warming climate and retreating glaciers. This paper presents a comparative analysis of lake classification and changes by dividing alpine lakes (within a 10 km ...

Dam type and lake location characterize ice-marginal lake area change in Alaska and NW Canada between 1984 and 2019 [PDF]
Ice-marginal lakes impact glacier mass balance, water resources, and ecosystem dynamics and can produce catastrophic glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) via sudden drainage.
