Low serum apolipoprotein A1 level predicts poor prognosis of patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma in the real world: a retrospective study

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Background Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) is a member of the apolipoprotein family with diverse functions. It is associated with the pathogenesis and prognosis of several types of tumors.

Computerized Morphometric Study of Thyroid Follicular Carcinoma in Correlation with Known Prognostic Factors

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2005
This study investigates the correlation between computer-assisted nuclear morphometry and known prognostic factors in thyroid follicular carcinoma. Thirty-six patients with thyroid follicular carcinoma who underwent surgery between 1991 and 2001 were ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Bias, Biostatistics, and Prognostic Factors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic Oncology, 2011
Prognostic factors are essential for patient management and counseling. Most cancer patients receive treatment based on the presence or absence of several risk factors. The most prominent example of this is tumor, node, metastasis staging, but many diseases are moving beyond the simple one-sizefits-all stage classification and using stylized prognostic

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Myelodysplastic syndromes: histopathology as prognostic factor

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Hematologia e Hemoterapia, 2001
Bone marrow biopsy allows evaluation of cellularity, abnormal localization of immature precursors and fibrosis in myelodysplastic syndrome. It has been considered important to make diagnosis and prognosis of this disorder.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocytes and platelets (HALP) score as a predictor of survival in patients with glioblastoma (GBM)

open access: yesBMC Neurology
Background We aimed to investigate whether the HALP score was a predictor of survival in patients with Glioblastoma (GBM). Methods A total of 84 Glioblastoma (GBM) patients followed in our clinic were included in the study.
