Essential tools but overlooked bias: Artificial intelligence and citizen science classification affect camera trap data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 11, Page 2638-2652, November 2025.
Abstract Camera trapping generates vast image datasets requiring classification before downstream ecological inference, yet the influence of classification errors on subsequent analyses is often overlooked. Classification performance can vary widely depending on the classification method (e.g. citizen science vs. artificial intelligence [AI]), species,

A methodology to optimize nitrogen management by accounting for the trade‐offs between crop yield, available nitrogen and potential nitrogen losses in lettuce

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 187, Issue 3, Page 371-386, November 2025.
The combination of crop nitrogen (N) status indicators with empirical relations can improve N management. A critical curve of %Nc = 3.39 · DMP−0.22 was determined for lettuce. An integrated nitrogen nutrition index value of 1.09 was related to maximum relative dry yield. The optimal N supply (as total available nitrogen [TAN]) for maximum dry yield was

Soft Robots Proprioception Through Stretchable Laser‐Induced Graphene Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
This study demonstrates the potential of laser‐induced graphene and silicone sensors for soft pneumatic grippers’ proprioception. The sensors are thin, stretchable, mechanically transparent, and easy to integrate. Finite‐element method analysis identifies the finger's neutral bending plane and four sensor positions are tested to validate the ...

Ammonia to Hydrogen Conversion in a Ferroelectric Packed‐Bed Plasma Reactor: The Effect of a High‐Permittivity Effective Medium Material

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 22, Issue 10, October 2025.
Ambient ammonia‐to‐hydrogen conversion is achieved in a packed‐bed ferroelectric plasma reactor. A Ru/Al2O3 coating on PZT pellets acts as a high‐permittivity effective medium, enhancing plasma current and boosting yield to 40%. Catalytic effects are negligible, and conversion is driven by permittivity‐enhanced plasma electrical properties.

Perspectives on microbial community changes produced by Hermitia illucens frass and their impact on soil suppression against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 10, Page 6832-6842, October 2025.
Soils amended with chitin or black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) frass reduced Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lactucae propagules compared to non‐amended soil. Changes observed in microbial communities could be involved. Abstract BACKGROUND Organic soil amendments rich in chitin have demonstrated significant potential promoting suppressive soils.

Bi‐environmental cage for colony management in the mass rearing of Anastrepha ludens (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesInsect Science, Volume 32, Issue 5, Page 1787-1798, October 2025.
Abstract Anastrepha ludens (Loew) is controlled in Mexico using sterile insect technique (SIT). SIT relies primarily on mass‐reared insects, which are subjected to the effects of selection during colonization and rearing, and that frequently result in modifications of their biology and behavior.

Using the Orienting Hazard Prediction Test to Assess Fitness‐to‐Drive: Data From Stroke Survivors

open access: yesApplied Cognitive Psychology, Volume 39, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
ABSTRACT This study pioneers the exploration of the attentional orienting effect in experienced drivers: stroke survivors and healthy drivers. The Orienting Hazard Prediction Test (OHPT) consisted of 39 short videos shot in a naturalistic setting, including a target hazard situation just before the end of the video.
