Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

A progress report… dates of planting for asparagus production
These tests show that a good initial stand of asparagus can be obtained through direct seeding from early spring to late summer; however, the final established stand was dependent upon the cultural practice following the first season of growth. Plantings

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A progress report: Paraquat for range seeding without cultivation
Millions of acres of California rangelands that could otherwise be improved by re-seeding are located on terrain that is steep, erodable, or too rocky for cultivation. Recent research has shown that these ranges can be successfully seeded by spraying the
