Typology of progressive collapse
Engineering Structures, 2007Abstract A typology and classification of progressive collapse of structures is developed that is founded on a study of the various underlying mechanisms of collapse. Six different types and four classes are discerned, the characteristic features of each category are described and compared, and a terminology is suggested.

Formulations for probability of progressive collapse
Structural Safety, 1988Abstract Practical and tractable formulations for determining the probability of progressive collapse in structures are developed. Both the case where abnormal loads are specified and the case where initiating damage levels are specified are considered. Methods for including event control measures in the formulations are also obtained.

Progressive collapse: Past, present, future and beyond
The world has seen a surge in rigorous study efforts on the progressive collapse of structures in the past few decades. These events have led to new standards and provisions in building codes of practice, many of which are still being developed and ...

Instantaneous collapse of the wave function upon measurement of a single particle is one of the postulates of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics. However, what happens when a many-body system in a macroscopic coherent state is measured one particle at a time? Here, we consider successive measurements of individual spins from a spin Bose

Collapsing Words: A Progress Report
International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2005A word w over a finite alphabet Σ is n-collapsing if for an arbitrary DFA [Formula: see text], the inequality |δ(Q, w)| ≤ |Q| - n holds provided that |δ(Q, u)| ≤ |Q| - n for some word u ∈ Σ+(depending on [Formula: see text]). We overview some recent results related to this notion.
