This short paper briefly describes the ALGRES project, an advanced relational programming environment for the specification and rapid prototyping of data-intensive applications. ALGRES is a vehicle for the integration of two research areas: the extension of the relational model to deal with complex objects and operations, and the integration of ...

Ultrasound technologies have been widely used in gynecology and obstetrics. Modern ultrasound systems allow the reconstruction of a 3D model of the subject being scanned. Even though visual interfaces have reached very high standards, the problem of representing a 3D image on a 2D computer screen still exists.

The large amounts of neuroanatomical data and images that can be difficult to publish by conventional means because of the lack of space and financial constraints can now be made available electronically. The Flybrain Project represents a concerted effort to generate an on-line atlas and database for the structure and function of the Drosophila nervous

Teaching Project Planning with No Project
2016 IEEE 29th International Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training (CSEET), 2016This paper describes a technique for teaching students about project estimating, planning and tracking in courses where there is no student project. The technique involves treating the course itself as the project. The technique is particularly useful in project management courses offered via distance education (for which team projects are not always ...

This chapter shows how the problem of dataset shift has been addressed by different philosophical schools under the concept of “projectability.” When philosophers tried to formulate scientific reasoning with the resources of predicate logic and a Bayesian inductive logic, it became evident how vital background knowledge is to allow us to project ...

During the past decades, with the growing complexity of our cities, changing urban situations, dramatic shifts in development conditions and distorting transformations in society, it has become clear that the traditions of all-encompassing master planning and static land-use planning are incapable of steering sustainable development.

Territorial Project as City Project
2013In the light of the change of conditions that has involved the urban phenomenon and the concept of urbanity itself, the current ‘post-metropolitan’ situation raises some issues regarding the future prospects of the city and the deep meanings of its existence.

The GreenNet project aims at re-thinking and redesigning different aspects of the current Internet technologies and network protocols to smartly support hardware power management. The pursued approach exploits two basic features already and largely present in today's networks and devices: the network resource virtualization and the modular architecture
