Optimizing an IT Project Portfolio with Time-Wise Interdependencies

Proceedings of the 39th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS'06), 2006
Little research has examined the relevance of real options for valuation of information technology (IT) investments for prioritizing a portfolio of projects. When the effect of project interdependencies is considered, the complexity of prioritizing even a small number of projects poses several challenges in applying real options.

Optimizing Portfolio Value through Comprehensive Project Metrics

2017
Project portfolios produce value through the coordinated execution of the projects and programs within the portfolio. The performance of the portfolio is evaluated by the generated business value and potential future opportunities it creates. This same performance measure is not applied to the projects within the portfolio. Projects are evaluated based

Significance of Project Risking Methods on Portfolio Optimization Models

SPE Latin American and Caribbean Petroleum Engineering Conference, 2001
Abstract Efficient frontier theory is gaining acceptance as a part of the portfolio analysis process in the petroleum industry. One of the major difficulties companies encounter in creating corporate efficient frontiers is in representing project level risks in a corporate consolidation of value.

An Approach to Select Pareto-Optimal VC Project Portfolios

2007 International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, 2007
To solve the problems of current portfolio selection methods of venture capital (VC) projects, resulting from the capital indivisibility and the scrutability of return of investment (ROI) of VC projects, two key concepts of project portfolio preference rate (TPR) and the variance of TPR (VTPR) are defined based on the project evaluation criteria (PEC ...

Parameterized model and approach for constrained project portfolio optimization

Proceedings of 2012 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics, 2012
In this paper the constrained project portfolio optimization problem is considered. It is modeled as a parameterized optimization problem, while considering risk, dependency, impact of delay and some other factors which will affect the result for the project portfolio optimization.

Strategic Alignment and Information System project portfolio optimization model

2015 10th International Conference on Intelligent Systems: Theories and Applications (SITA), 2015
With the evolution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Information Systems (IS) have become complex and difficult to control in the absence of definite necessary accompanying measures and lack of adherence of all stakeholders. Thus, a serious problem has faced organizations: how to develop Information Systems that provide both a better ...

Optimal diversification for R&D project portfolios

Scientometrics, 2011
Diversification of R&D projects not only can reduce overall risk, but also can create value-enhancement effect. A useful guideline for optimal diversification of R&D projects is important to R&D organizations. This paper extends financial portfolio analyses for R&D management particularly incorporating the technology risk.

OptFolio - a simulation optimization system for project portfolio planning

Proceedings of the 2003 International Conference on Machine Learning and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.03EX693), 2004
OptFolio is a new portfolio optimization software system simultaneously addresses financial return goals, catastrophic loss avoidance, and performance probability. The innovations embedded in the system enable users to confidently design effective plans for achieving financial goals, employing accurate analysis based on real data.
