Hemp Cultivation and Crop Diversification: Implications for Ecosystem Services in Kentucky

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the ecosystem benefits of expanding hemp cultivation by assessing its impact on crop diversity. Using scenario‐based simulations and fixed‐effect panel regressions with county‐level data in Kentucky, we find that increased hemp acreage tends to enhance crop diversity, improving water quality and bird diversity.

Ex‐Ante Assessment of Farm Resilience to Institutional Shocks: A Modeling Approach

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Using the agent‐based model SWISSland, we simulate farm‐level responses and interactions under two institutional shocks: tariff reductions and direct payment reductions. Using a framework we developed, we assess resilience capacities, resilience attributes, and the provision of private and public goods, following the shock.

Selecting Project Portfolios by Optimizing Simulations

open access: yesThe Engineering Economist, 2006
New advances in the area of simulation optimization allow managers to go beyond traditional ranking rules, CAPM, and real options analysis in order to select optimal sets of projects to fund. Furthermore, these advances make use of portfolio performance measures and goals that can be defined to directly relate to corporate strategy and are easy to ...
