The Projective Geometry of Freudenthal's Magic Square
We connect the algebraic geometry and representation theory associated to Freudenthal's magic square. We give unified geometric descriptions of several classes of orbit closures, describing their hyperplane sections and desingularizations, and interpreting them in terms of composition algebras.

Sums of Squares: A Real Projective Story
The relationship between nonnegative polynomials and sums of squares is one of the central questions in real algebraic geometry. A modern approach is to look at nonnegative polynomials and sums of squares on a real variety. We survey the rich history of this area and focus on recent developments highlighting unexpected links to complex algebraic ...

ON THE SYMMETRIC SQUARES OF COMPLEX AND QUATERNIONIC PROJECTIVE SPACE [PDF]
AbstractThe problem of computing the integral cohomology ring of the symmetric square of a topological space has long been of interest, but limited progress has been made on the general case until recently. We offer a solution for the complex and quaternionic projective spaces$\mathbb{K}$Pn, by utilising their rich geometrical structure.

Projective least-squares: Global solutions with local optimization [PDF]
Work in multiple view geometry has focused on obtaining globally optimal solutions at the price of computational time efficiency. On the other hand, traditional bundle adjustment algorithms have been found to provide good solutions even though there may be multiple local minima.

Fast Projected Bispectra: the filter-square approach [PDF]
The study of third-order statistics in large-scale structure analyses has been hampered by the increased complexity of bispectrum estimators (compared to power spectra), the large dimensionality of the data vector, and the difficulty in estimating its covariance matrix. In this paper we present the filtered-squared bispectrum (FSB), an estimator of the

Orthogonal Projection and Total Least Squares [PDF]
AbstractOverdetermined linear systems often arise in applications such as signal processing and modern communication. When the overdetermined system of linear equations AX ≈︁ B has no solution, compatibility may be restored by an orthogonal projection method. The idea is to determine an orthogonal projection matrix P by some method M such that [Ã B̃] =

Projectivity of the Whitehead square [PDF]
We show that the Whitehead square of the generator of π n ( S n ) {\pi _n}({S^n}) is not a projective homotopy class for any integer n n with neither n n or n
