Projections, Pseudoinverses and Least Squares [PDF]

open access: possible, 2011
The farmers would say that we are fast approaching the harvest season. We wouldn’t want to disillusion them and so we will begin (in this section) to harvest some of the fruit generated by the work of the previous sections. In particular we will discover how to solve, in various ways, a very important problem which goes by the name of the problem of ...

The One Square Foot project

Studies in Theatre and Performance, 2007
AbstractThe One Square Foot project is a collaborative investigation concerned with the making of ‘new work’. It places the ‘creative actor’, rather than the playwright, at the heart of generating material for performance and addresses the question of dramaturgical structure within interdisciplinary performance as one of its key concerns.

Polar square projection for panoramic video

2017 IEEE Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP), 2017
Panoramic video provides an immersive experience by presenting a 360° spherical video content. Due to the limitations of coding and storage technology, the spherical panoramic video needs to be projected onto the two-dimensional plane for storage and encoding. In this paper, we propose a polar square projection scheme.

Fitting Square Theories Into Round Projects

Research and Theory for Nursing Practice, 2013
Colleagues, the time has come for me to stand on my soapbox and proselytize about the difference between the kinds of end products/projects/dissertations we expect from PhD, DNS, DNSc, EdD, and DNP students. More than that, however, is the need to provide appropriate learning experiences regarding that difference.

Partners in collaboration: The homan square project

Journal of Professional Nursing, 1998
The Homan Square Project, a collaborative community development effort, exemplifies the World Health Organization's model for cities. This article describes the implementation of a health care component--a joint venture between the College of Nursing at Rush University and Rush Primary Care Institute of the Rush System for Health--in partnership with ...

A least squares calibration method for fringe projection profilometry

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
This paper presents a novel least squares calibration approach for fringe projection profilometry. This approach is based on a simple nonlinear function, which is deduced by analyzing the geometry of measurement system and perfectly describes the mapping relationship between the depth map and phase distribution.

Maximum Mean Square Projection Filters

SPIE Proceedings, 1990
The maximum mean square projection (MMSP) filter is proposed for distortion invariant recognition. It classifies images according to the energy projected onto an N-dimensional subspace. The MMSP filter is implemented in an updatable optical correlator where correlations from multiple filters are time integrated on the output detector array.

The Aurora Project Square Mirror Arrays

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
Simple low cost methods are discussed for obtaining 96-mirror arrays using closely packed square mirrors and commercially available linear actuators. Advantages and disadvantages of orthogonal-kinematic and gimbaled-pivot-flexure designs that have been employed in the Aurora Project are addressed.

SQUARE INTEGRABLE PROJECTIVE REPRESENTATIONS AND SQUARE INTEGRABLE REPRESENTATIONS MODULO A RELATIVELY CENTRAL SUBGROUP

International Journal of Geometric Methods in Modern Physics, 2006
We introduce the notion of square integrable group representation modulo a relatively central subgroup and, establishing a link with square integrable projective representations, we prove a generalization of a classical theorem of Duflo and Moore. As an example, we apply the results obtained to the Weyl–Heisenberg group.

Minimal Blocking Sets in Projective Spaces of Square Order

Designs, Codes and Cryptography, 2001
In this paper minimal \(m\)-blocking sets of cardinality at most \(\theta_m+\theta_{m-1}\sqrt q\), \(\theta_i=(q^i-1)/(q-1)\), in \(PG(n,q)\), \(q\geq 16\) are characterized to be \((t,2(m-t-1))\)-cones for some \(t\), with max\(\{-1,2m-n-1\}\leq t\leq m-1\). Also the smallest \(m\)-blocking sets generating \(PG(n,q)\), \(2m\geq n\geq m\) are found.
