Small towns files. Lina Bo Bardi Unbuilt

open access: yesDisegnare con, 2014
Lina Bo Bardi designed three rural settlings in Brazil; they was unbuilt but defined with clear geometric shapes: the circle and the square. The first project, in 1951, was an urban plant constituted by the same type of low-cost houses and by two ...

Projected Least-Squares Quantum Process Tomography

open access: yesQuantum, 2022
We propose and investigate a new method of quantum process tomography (QPT) which we call projected least squares (PLS). In short, PLS consists of first computing the least-squares estimator of the Choi matrix of an unknown channel, and subsequently projecting it onto the convex set of Choi matrices.

Differences in topological progression profile among neurodegenerative diseases from imaging data

open access: yeseLife, 2019
The spatial distribution of atrophy in neurodegenerative diseases suggests that brain connectivity mediates disease propagation. Different descriptors of the connectivity graph potentially relate to different underlying mechanisms of propagation ...

When the Place Matters: Moving the Classroom Into a Museum to Re-design a Public Space

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2020
In this case-report we describe an experience where alternative places – rather than the classroom – are exploited to implement learning processes. We maintain that this experience is a good example of materiality because it focuses on a project where ...

Challenges and experiences of a participative green space development in Budapest-Józsefváros [PDF]

open access: yesUrbani Izziv, 2008
This article is an attempt to present the theoretical and practical backgrounds of a participative green space development in Hungary. The renewed green space, Mátyás square is located in District VIII of Budapest, known as Józsefváros. The neighbourhood

On the Successive Projections Approach to Least-Squares Problems [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1986
This paper describes a generalized Gauss-Seidel approach to sparse linear and nonlinear least-squares problems. It is based on partitioning the columns of the Jacobian matrix into groups of independent columns (with respect to sparsity). This grouping implicity defines the ''diagonal blocks'' in the generalized Gauss-Seidel process.

Predicting Highway Construction Costs: Comparison of the Performance of Random Forest, Neural Network and Support Vector Machine Models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Soft Computing in Civil Engineering, 2020
Inaccurate cost estimates have substantial effects on the final cost of construction projects and erode profits. Cost estimation at conceptual phase is a challenge as inadequate information is available.

Abelian Projective Planes of Square Order

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics, 1989
The author proves that, under certain conditions, multipliers of an abelian projective plane of square order have odd order modulo \(v^*\), where \(v^*\) is the exponent of the underlying Singer group. As a consequence, he is able to establish the non-existence of an infinitive number of abelian projective planes of square order. Namely: suppose that \(

Two-sample least squares projection [PDF]

open access: yesEconometric Reviews, 2017
ABSTRACTThis article investigates the problem of making inference about the coefficients in the linear projection of an outcome variable y on covariates (x,z) when data are available from two independent random samples; the first sample contains information on only the variables (y,z), while the second sample contains information on only the covariates ...

Projects in Sultanahmet Square in the Late Ottoman Period [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference of Contemporary Affairs in Architecture and Urbanism-ICCAUA, 2021
In the 19th century, the foci of the spatial change in the capital of the Ottoman Empire were the squares dating back to the previous period. As buildings were endowed by their builders, the Byzantine forums had disappeared during the Ottoman Empire. During this period, the only place known and named as a square was the Hippodrome (Atmeydanı).
