Cis‐regulatory and long noncoding RNA alterations in breast cancer – current insights, biomarker utility, and the critical need for functional validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The noncoding region of the genome plays a key role in regulating gene expression, and mutations within these regions are capable of altering it. Researchers have identified multiple functional noncoding mutations associated with increased cancer risk in the genome of breast cancer patients.

Visualising project management dimensions

open access: yesJournal of Project, Program & Portfolio Management, 2012
It is easier to decide upon which projects to include in a portfolio if a comprehensive human–computer interface is provided. Two alternative displays were designed according to best practice from the literature and tested according to a simple mathematical optimisation model and the average error from testing subjects and the “optimal” solution to ...

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Fractal dimensions of particle projected shapes

open access: yesAdvanced Powder Technology, 1988
In order to quantitatively determine a particle's shape, the profile data of particle-projected figures were fed into the personal computer using the digitizer, and then the fractal dimensions of the particles were calculated by the divider method. The fractal dimensions of twenty-eight different kinds of sample particles were compared with Wadell's ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

The small condition for modules with Noetherian dimension [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mahani Mathematical Research
A module $M$ with Noetherian dimension is said to satisfy the small condition, if for any small submodule $S$ of $M$ the Noetherian dimension of $S$ is strictly less than the Noetherian dimension of $M$. For an Artinian  module $M$, this is equivalent to

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Projective dimensions and almost split sequences

open access: yesJournal of Algebra, 2004
In the theory of homological dimension it is a classical question to compare dimensions of terms appearing in certain exact sequences. The main result of the paper, Theorem 4.1, lists equivalent conditions implying that the projective dimension of the middle term in an almost split exact sequence is strictly smaller than the maximum of the ones of the ...
