Constructive projective extension of an incidence plane [PDF]

open access: yesTrans. Amer. Math. Soc. 366 (2014), 691-706
A standard procedure in classical projective geometry, using pencils of lines to extend an incidence plane to a projective plane, is examined from a constructive viewpoint. Brouwerian counterexamples reveal the limitations of traditional pencils. Generalized definitions are adopted to construct a projective extension.

Elasticity of Diametrically Compressed Microfabricated Woodpile Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Modulus–porosity relationship is derived for woodpile lattices with struts under diametrical compression. The formula presented here that Young's modulus is proportional to the square of the volume fraction E˜ρ2$E \sim \left(\rho\right)^{2}$ is shown to be consistent with computations and laboratory experiments on 3D‐printed samples.

Internal symmetry in Poincarè gauge gravity

open access: yesNuclear Physics B
We find a large internal symmetry within 4-dimensional Poincarè gauge theory. In the Riemann-Cartan geometry of Poincaré gauge theory the field equation and geodesics are invariant under projective transformation, just as in affine geometry.

Projective planes, Severi varieties and spheres [PDF]

open access: yesSurveys in Differential Geometry VIII, Papers in Honor of Calabi, Lawson, Siu and Uhlenbeck (International Press, Somerville, MA, 2003) 1-27., 2002
A classical result asserts that the complex projective plane modulo complex conjugation is the 4-dimensional sphere. We generalize this result in two directions by considering the projective planes over the normed real division algebras and by considering the complexifications of these four projective planes.

Some recent results in finite geometry and coding theory arising from the Gale transform [PDF]

open access: yesRendiconti di Matematica e delle Sue Applicazioni, 2010
The Gale transform is an involution on sets of points in a projective space. It plays a crucial role in several different subjects, such as algebraic geometry, optimization, coding theory, and so on. We give a brief survey—from a finite geometry point of

A Novel Digitalization Approach for Smart Materials – Ontology‐Based Access to Data and Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In order to access heterogeneous material data and model‐based knowledge, the established ontology‐based data access (OBDA) is extended to include material models. This novel ontology‐based data and model access (OBDMA) enables the computation of new responses beyond stored data.

FAIR and Structured Data: A Domain Ontology Aligned with Standard‐Compliant Tensile Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The digitalization in materials science and engineering is discussed, emphasizing the importance of digital workflows and ontologies in managing diverse experimental data. Challenges such as quality assurance and data interoperability are tackled with semantic web technologies, focusing and introducing the tensile test ontology (TTO).
