Drug-Induced Prolongation of the QT Interval
New England Journal of Medicine, 2004The single most common cause of the withdrawal or restriction of the use of marketed drugs has been QT-interval prolongation associated with polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, or torsade de pointes, a condition that can be fatal. This review summarizes the current knowledge about molecular and clinical predictors of drug-induced QT-interval ...

Hypocalcemia-Induced QT Interval Prolongation
Cardiology, 2022An 87-year-old man with a history of transcatheter aortic valve replacement, pulmonary hypertension, diastolic dysfunction with preserved systolic function, and myelofibrosis had a 12-lead ECG showed a prolonged QT interval of 508 ms with heart-rate correction placing it in the 99th percentile of the population.

The Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1985
The QT interval is a function of ventricular repolarization time and is measured from the onset of the QRS complex to the end of the T wave. The length of this interval is inversely related to heart rate. A prolonged QT interval is most often secondary to the use of Type I antidysrhythmic medications (quinidine, procainamide).

Syncope With Prolonged QT Interval
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1976Four children with syncope had a prolonged QT interval on the electrocardiogram. Neurologic studies were negative. One patient had associated deaf mutism, one had a family history of sudden death and prolonged QT interval, and two had ventricular arrhythmias while being monitored in the hospital.

Tamoxifen-induced QT interval prolongation
Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, 2008We report on a case of tamoxifen-induced QT interval prolongation in a 56-year-old-female patient with hormone-dependent carcinoma of the right breast, stage T2N0M0, grade 3 and HER-2 negative. Partial mastectomy with axillary lymph node excision was performed in July 2007 with adjuvant hormonal and radiation therapy.

Prolonged QT-Interval Syndromes
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1986PROLONGATION of the QT interval, either on a congenital or an acquired basis, is associated with an increased likelihood of malignant ventricular arrhythmias. 1-3 Patients with QT prolongation frequently develop recurrent attacks of syncope or may present with sudden death.

Gatifloxacin and Prolonged QT Interval
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2004We report the case of a 54-year-old woman who, while being treated for acute sinusitis with gatifloxacin, presented with syncope and was found to have a markedly prolonged QT interval. After stopping gatifloxacin, the QT interval normalized. We speculate that her episode of syncope was caused by a ventricular arrhythmia that resulted from an increased ...

Aliskiren-Induced QT Interval Prolongation
Southern Medical Journal, 2009Aliskiren gained FDA approval for the treatment of hypertension in 2007. It is the first approved pharmaceutical to manage hypertension by direct renin inhibition. With the introduction of novel drugs and mechanisms of action comes the challenge of monitoring for new unreported adverse events.

Biventricular Pacing and QT Interval Prolongation
Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2007Introduction: The purpose of this study was to examine BiV pacing‐dependent changes in QT interval and the related potential for proarrhythmia. Biventricular (BiV) pacing has emerged as a promising therapy for patients with advanced congestive heart failure (CHF) and bundle branch block (BBB).
