Expanding the Tephrochronological Record in the Alps: Discovery of the Laacher See Tephra in Lake Plansee (Austria)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract We present the first documented occurrence of the Laacher See tephra (LST) in the Eastern Alps, identified in lake Plansee, Austria. The LST is a key chronostratigraphic marker for correlating and dating Late Glacial sedimentary archives. This discovery was made by progressively narrowing down observational limits from rough estimates of ...

Restoring the Missing Late Cretaceous Arc of Iran

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Persistent arc magmatism archives fluid transport and mantle partial melting in subduction zones. However, arc magmatism often exhibits different magmatic records along the strike, as seen in the Tethyan orogenic belt. During Neo‐Tethys subduction under Iran, there was pulsed arc magmatism with Middle Jurassic and Eocene magmatic flare‐ups ...

Laboratory‐Constrained Seismic Properties of the COSC‐2 Borehole, Scandinavian Caledonides: Implications for Crustal Anisotropy and Reflectivity

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Seismic surveys are essential for studying the Earth's subsurface. However, the interpretation of seismic surveys requires a link between field data and rock physical properties by linking laboratory‐derived data from drill core samples with borehole information and seismic images.

Evolving Strain Partitioning Driven by Multiple Plate Interaction—Paleotectonic Reconstruction of Northwestern South America During the Cenozoic

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract In Northwestern South America (NWSA) geodetic observations point to a consistent northeastward displacement of blocks, while the geological record shows a predominant shortening in NW‐SE direction. Such clear evidence of strain partitioning has been extensively studied in the context of two convergent plates, but not in complex tectonic area ...

Prediction of obstetric outcome in vaginal breech birth using ultrasound pelvimetry in nulliparous women—A feasibility study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 104, Issue 12, Page 2263-2272, December 2025.
Transperineal ultrasound showed high agreement with magnetic resonance pelvimetry in measuring the anteroposterior mid‐pelvic diameter. This novel, sonographically measured pelvic diameter predicts the risk for intrapartum cesarean section in attempted vaginal breech birth.
