Ouroboros Crypsinous: Privacy-Preserving Proof-of-Stake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present Ouroboros Crypsinous, the first formally analyzed privacy-preserving proof-of-stake blockchain protocol. To model its security we give a thorough treatment of private ledgers in the (G)UC setting that might be of independent interest. To prove

51% attack vulnerability of nascent blockchains: a comprehensive review

open access: yesComplex & Intelligent Systems
Nascent blockchains—networks in their formative stages (0–3 years post-launch) with limited network participation and market capitalisation below $100 million—face disproportionate vulnerability to consensus-level attacks.

Hydro‐ and Lipophilicity of Molecular‐Size‐Controlled Hydrogel Drug Carriers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We investigate nano‐sized hydrogel drug carriers with tailored hydro‐ and lipophilicity. We design their encapsulation and structure‐forming capabilities and follow them in real time during fabrication using time‐resolved and in situ grazing incidence x‐ray scattering.

From Rigid to Soft Robotic Approaches for Neuroendoscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robotic assistance has had minimal impact on deep intraventricular surgeries, where small‐scale, precision, and reduced invasiveness can contribute to improved patient outcomes. Emerging technologies in rigid, soft, and hybrid robotics are reviewed to identify the most promising mechanisms for deep brain navigation in addition to an attempt to identify

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.

Piezoresistivity Enhancement by Graphite Flake Alignment in Thin Composite Films for Dielectric Elastomer Switches

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article presents dielectric elastomer switch (DES) materials, based on composite thin films. Alignment of graphite flakes due to their physical confinement within the thin films lead to much stronger piezoresistive responses than bulk composites, while their durability exceeds that of conventional liquid‐based DES materials.

Ouroboros: A Provably Secure Proof-of-Stake Blockchain Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present ``Ouroboros,\u27\u27 the first blockchain protocol based on proof of stake with rigorous security guarantees. We establish security properties for the protocol comparable to those achieved by the bitcoin blockchain protocol.
