Thermoviscoelastic Analysis of Axisymmetric Solid Propellant Grains

Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, 1975
Theme T paper presents a technique developed for the analysis of stress concentration in axisymmetric viscoelastic solids with a moving inner boundary. Using White's procedure of viscoelastic analysis, the technique is then used to analyze a case-bonded grain, in which a number of axisymmetric slots are spaced at intervals along the longitudinal ...

Transient thermal stresses in solid propellant grains

1st Annual Meeting, 1964
This paper describes how finite-difference procedures are used to solve axisymmetric thermal stress problems with the aid of an electronic digital computer. In this solution, elasticity theory is employed in a stress-function formulation that includes the effects of continuously varying temperatures in both the axial and radial directions.

Photothermoelastic analysis of bonded propellant grains

Experimental Mechanics, 1961
A two-dimensional model of the transversal cross section of a bonded rocket propellant grain was subjected to uniform and steady thermal loading and, alternatively, to mechanically applied uniform radial displacements on the outer boundary. The optimization of perforation contours (attained in previous research programs by applying uniform pressure on ...
