Rotating propeller soliton

Nonlinear Guided Waves and Their Applications, 2001
We demonstrate experimentally and theoretically (both analytically and numerically) a new type of spatial soliton: a rotating "propeller" soliton. This is a composite soliton made of a rotating dipole component jointly trapped with a bell-shaped component. We observe as much as 239 degrees of rotation over 13 mm of propagation (6.5 diffraction lengths).

Propeller Injuries

Southern Medical Journal, 1976
Water skiing, boat racing, skin and scuba diving, and pleasure boat cruising are increasing in popularity. As a result the incidence of injuries secondary to motor propellers is becoming more frequent. In a ten-year period from 1963 to 1973, I collected a total of nine cases.

Propellers:

Aeronautical journal (London, England : 1897), 1914
The material for this paper was collected for a written communication to the Research Committee for publication in The Aëronautical Journal, in the form of a brief annotated account of the work of a number of experimenters on the performance of the screw propeller in air and water; but, at the request of the Council, a month ago, the article has been ...

Self-propelling slugs

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002
Surface coating is generally achieved by an active operation: painting with a brush; withdrawing from a bath. Porous imbibition constitutes a more passive way: a porous material just put in contact with a reservoir containing a wetting fluid is spontaneously invaded. In this case, the material can eventually be filled by the fluid. If the aim is to

Propelled

2020
Abstract Weaving together stories from sources as wide-ranging as classical literature, social and cognitive psychology, philosophy, art, and video games, Propelled: How Boredom, Frustration, and Anticipation Lead Us to the Good Life makes a lively case for the value of discontent in our lives.

Self-Propelled Nanotools

ACS Nano, 2012
We describe nanoscale tools in the form of autonomous and remotely guided catalytically self-propelled InGaAs/GaAs/(Cr)Pt tubes. These rolled-up tubes with diameters in the range of 280-600 nm move in hydrogen peroxide solutions with speeds as high as 180 μm s(-1).

Motorboat Propeller Injuries

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2000
Abstract The authors anlayze the case of an Albanian refugee who was killed by the propellers of the outboard engine of a rubber dinghy while illegally attempting to reach Italy. The finding of multiple parallel, deep clear-cut injuries is uncommon, but highly characteristic of the object producing the lesions.
