A variance shilf model for outlier detection and estimation in linear and linear mixed models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references.Outliers are data observations that fall outside the usual conditional ranges of the response data. They are common in experimental research data, for example, due to transcription errors or faulty ...

Multicriteria decision making-based approach to classify loose-leaf teas

open access: yesNFS Journal
Near infrared spectra of 75 different loose-leaf teas were analyzed based on their oxidational state: white, green, matcha, oolong, black, dark and pu-erh.

ATZ‐1 promotes DNA replication efficiency to maintain normal meiotic function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Absence of ATZ‐1 interferes with meiotic DNA replication and cell cycle function via CHK‐1. This causes downstream defects associated with DNA damage and genomic integrity. Taken together, this study suggests that ATZ‐1 influences DNA replication efficiency and cell cycle function to maintain normal meiotic function.

NON-LINEAR MATHEMATICAL MODELS IN THE THEORY OF EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: APPLICATION IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES

open access: yesFacta Universitatis. Series: Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Since real processes usually are not linear, different non-linear mathematical models are usually applied for studying their behavior: high order polynomials, power, exponential and other functions.

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Parametric Statistics and the General Linear Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Too many students acquire statistical knowledge and techniques independent of each other. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the many connections mathematically between parametric statistics and the General Linear Model.

Pattern recognition of ocean pH

open access: yesNonlinear Engineering, 2016
The manuscript shows how the few, scattered, latest measurements of ocean pH lacking a proper spatial and time coverage do not permit a meaningful computation of global trends, as the ocean pH is strongly variable in latitude, longitude and depth and ...

Using cell‐free RNA to identify B‐ and T‐cell clonality for diagnosis and monitoring of B‐ and T‐cell neoplasms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using peripheral blood for determining B‐cell or T‐cell clonality is more reliable when we use cell‐free RNA (cfRNA) because cells release blood significantly more RNA than DNA. Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of cfRNA allows us to evaluate fragment cfRNA and evaluate clonality reliably without the need for prior determination of the specific dominant

Predicting Concrete Compressive Strength and Modulus of Rupture Using Different NDT Techniques

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2014
Quality tests applied to hydraulic concrete such as compressive, tension, and bending strength are used to guarantee proper characteristics of materials. All these assessments are performed by destructive tests (DTs).

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...
