A New Look at Proper Orthogonal Decomposition
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 2003Summary: We investigate some basic properties of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method as it is applied to data compression and model reduction of finite dimensional nonlinear systems. First we provide an analysis of the errors involved in solving a nonlinear ODE initial value problem using a POD reduced order model.

Cross proper orthogonal decomposition
Physical Review Fluids, 2021A new modal decomposition of fluid flows, labeled cross proper orthogonal decomposition (CPOD), is presented. CPOD modes are ranked by their contributions to the trace of the cross-covariance between flow fluctuations. An application of CPOD is presented for turbulent channel flow, with modes with maximal contribution to the Reynolds shear stress.

Isogeometric Analysis with Proper Orthogonal Decomposition for Elastodynamics
Communications in Computational Physics, 2021Summary: We consider reduced order modelling of elastodynamics with proper orthogonal decomposition and isogeometric analysis, a recent novel and promising discretization method for partial differential equations. The generalized-\(\alpha\) method for transient problems is used for additional flexibility in controlling high frequency dissipation.

On The Hidden Beauty of the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition
Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics, 1991The proper orthogonal decomposition theorem (Loeve (1955)) of probability theory has been proposed and adapted by Lumley (1967) for detecting spatial coherent patterns in turbulent flows. More specifically, the decomposition extracts deterministic functions from second order statistics of a random field and converges optimally fast in the quadratic ...

A few thoughts on proper orthogonal decomposition in turbulence
Physics of Fluids, 2017Proper orthogonal decomposition was originally introduced in turbulence to identify large-scale patterns in turbulent flows. Over the years, several extensions have been formulated in order to strengthen its model-predictive abilities, with limited success in the case of fully developed turbulence.
