Energy preserving model order reduction of the nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
An energy preserving reduced order model is developed for two dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation (NLSE) with plane wave solutions and with an external potential.

Bayesian Optimization Guiding the Experimental Mapping of the Pareto Front of Mechanical and Flame‐Retardant Properties in Polyamide Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Bayesian optimization enabled the design of PA56 system with just 8 wt% additives, achieving limiting oxygen index 30.5%, tensile strength 80.9 MPa, and UL‐94 V‐0 rating. Without prior knowledge, the algorithm uncovered synergistic effects between aluminum diethyl‐phosphinate and nanoclay.

A Temporal Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (TPOD) Method for Closed-Loop Flow Control [PDF]

open access: yes48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting Including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2010
Motivated by closed-loop flow control applications, a new formulation of the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is presented which is capable of characterizing not only the controlled and natural states of a given flow but also the transient behavior between these states.

Adaptive Macroscopic Ensemble Allocation for Robot Teams Monitoring Spatiotemporal Processes

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We propose an online, environment feedback‐driven macroscopic ensemble approach to adapt robot team task allocation in spatiotemporal environments by controlling robot populations rather than assigning individual robots, all while maintaining robust team performance even for small teams. Our simulation and experimental results show better or comparable

Symplectic Model Reduction of Hamiltonian Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, a symplectic model reduction technique, proper symplectic decomposition (PSD) with symplectic Galerkin projection, is proposed to save the computational cost for the simplification of large-scale Hamiltonian systems while preserving the ...

Model order reduction approaches for infinite horizon optimal control problems via the HJB equation

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate feedback control for infinite horizon optimal control problems for partial differential equations. The method is based on the coupling between Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations and model reduction techniques.

Flow-induced vibration response analysis of windshield of high-speed train based on proper orthogonal decomposition and pseudo excitation method

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
The flow-induced vibration of the outer windshield of high-speed train intensifies as the train's speed increases, impacting stability and safety during operation. The vibration characteristics of outer windshields are crucial for optimizing higher-speed

Multicrack Localization in Rotors Based on Proper Orthogonal Decomposition Using Fractal Dimension and Gapped Smoothing Method

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
Multicrack localization in operating rotor systems is still a challenge today. Focusing on this challenge, a new approach based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) is proposed for multicrack localization in rotors.
