Antitrust, Innovation, and Uncertain Property Rights: Some Practical Considerations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The intersection of antitrust and intellectual property circumscribes two century-long debates. The first pertains to questions about how antitrust law and intellectual property law interact, and the second pertains to questions about how parties can ...

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Types of planning and property rights

open access: yes, 2016
This research contributes to the debate concerning the nature of planning in complex systems, and particularly to the theory of teleocracy (the approach based on direct provisions aimed at specific ends) and nomocracy (the approach based on rules aimed ...

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Resource asymmetry and property rights in agricultural drainage systems: Implications for collective action

open access: yesInternational Journal of the Commons, 2018
Scholarly work on examining how property rights affect incentives for collective action in common-pool resource management has benefited immensely from the property-rights analytical scheme proposed in the seminal work of Schlager & Ostrom (1992).

The Effect Of The Original Acquisition Of Ownership Of Immovable Property On Existing Limited Real Rights [PDF]

open access: yesPotchefstroom Electronic Law Journal, 2015
It is an accepted principle in South African law that movable property acquired in an original way (by operation of law) is not burdened by any limited real rights, as previous limited real rights are extinguished on the vesting of ownership (mobilia non

From Author's Right to Property Right [PDF]

open access: yesUniversity of Toronto Law Journal, 2012
Though copyright is usually categorized as a property right, efforts to justify copyright on other grounds have persisted since the eighteenth century. The Lockean defence, based on the author's labour, is usually seen as conducive to a property right but is sometimes linked instead (or in addition) to a personality right.

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs
