Strong scale-dependent relationships between fine-root function and soil properties uncovered with spatially coupled sampling. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary Substantial fine‐root trait variation is found at fine spatial scales but rarely linked to edaphic variation. We assessed the spatial scales of variation in fine‐root traits and adjacent soils using a spatially coupled, nested sampling scheme along a fertility gradient in a seasonally dry tropical forest tree, Handroanthus ochraceus.

Patterns of leaf trait variation underlie ecological differences among sympatric tree species of Damburneya in a tropical rainforest

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 109, Issue 9, Page 1394-1409, September 2022., 2022
Abstract Premise Although ecological differentiation driven by altitude and soil is hypothesized to promote coexistence of sympatric tree species of Damburneya (Lauraceae), the mechanistic role of leaf functional variation on ecological differentiation among co‐occurring species remains unexplored.

The role of nutritional impairment in carbon‐water balance of silver fir drought‐induced dieback

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 28, Issue 14, Page 4439-4458, July 2022., 2022
Declining silver fir trees show lower foliar concentrations of essential nutrients such as P, K, Cu and Ni than non‐declining trees. This nutritional impairment exacerbates and amplifies the negative effects of drought on tree functioning and growth, considering the relationship of tree nutritional status with water‐use efficiency and growth resilience

Impact of freeze‐drying shelf temperature on the bioactive compounds, physical properties and sensory evaluation of a product based on orange juice

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science &Technology, Volume 56, Issue 10, Page 5409-5416, October 2021., 2021
To dry at 50 °C while freeze‐drying shortens the process time, promotes the vitamin C content, improves the mechanical properties of the cake and does not affect the flowability and the rehydration behaviour of the powdered product. Summary Freeze‐drying is a good alternative means of obtaining fruit products, with a significant amount of thermolabile ...

Soluciones relacionadas con el entorno alimentario para prevenir la obesidad infantil en América Latina y en la población latina que vive en Estados Unidos

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 22, Issue S5, Octubre 2021., 2021

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 22, Issue S5, Octubre 2021., 2021

A Review of Codes and Standards for Bamboo Structural Design

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Bamboo is a strong, fast‐growing, and sustainable material. In modern times, it can be an aesthetically pleasing and low‐cost alternative to more conventional materials. Despite the literature’s consideration of bamboo’s promising potential as a resilient, sustainable building material for structural element design, its application is limited.
