Native Joint Propionibacterium Septic Arthritis
Propionibacterium species are associated with normal skin flora and cultures may be dismissed as contaminants. They are increasingly recognized as a cause of septic arthritis following shoulder arthroplasty and arthrotomy.

SlpB Protein Enhances the Probiotic Potential of L. lactis NCDO 2118 in Colitis Mice Model
Bacteria used in the production of fermented food products have been investigated for their potential role as modulators of inflammation in gastrointestinal tract disorders such as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) that cause irreversible changes in the ...

Characterization of Propionibacterium plasmids [PDF]
Plasmid DNAs from 15 Propionibacterium strains were characterized by using restriction endonuclease analyses, DNA-DNA hybridizations, and curing experiments. Restriction endonuclease analysis identified seven distinct plasmids (pRGO1 through pRGO7). Detailed restriction maps were constructed for four of these plasmids.

Comparative studies of porphyrin production in Propionibacterium acnes and Propionibacterium granulosum [PDF]
Porphyrin production by Propionibacterium acnes and that by Propionibacterium granulosum were compared. Porphyrin synthesized by both organisms was identified as coproporphyrin III on the bases of absorption and fluorescence spectra and behavior on paper chromatography and thin-layer chromatography. Quantitative, rather than qualitative, differences in

Porphyrin Production and Regulation in Cutaneous Propionibacteria
Porphyrins are intermediate metabolites in the biosynthesis of vital molecules, including heme, cobalamin, and chlorophyll. Bacterial porphyrins are known to be proinflammatory, with high levels linked to inflammatory skin diseases.

Evaluation of pH of bathing soaps and shampoos for skin and hair care
Background: Normal healthy skin has potential of hydrogen (pH) range of 5.4-5.9 and a normal bacterial flora. Use of soap with high pH causes an increase in skin pH, which in turn causes an increase in dehydrative effect, irritability and alteration in ...
