Propionibacterium acnes Orbital Abscess
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1990Propionibacterium acnes is a ubiquitous, gram-positive, anaerobic organism. Long thought to be a harmless commensal species, it has become implicated in ocular disease. We report a P acnes orbital abscess that, to our knowledge, is the first reported case of a primary P acnes infection of the orbit in the ophthalmic literature. Report of a Case.

Acne is still a major problem, and treatment options are far from ideal. A number of studies suggest that the species Propionibacterium acnes plays an important role in the pathogenesis, and new data point towards molecular mechanisms by which the organism is able to trigger the host inflammatory response. The current knowledge on P.

Exoenzymes of Propionibacterium acnes
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1982Thirty strains of Propionibacterium acnes were grown in basal salt medium containing lecithin as a lipid substrate and in other media. The cultures were assayed for production of lipase (measured as fatty acid esterase) and other exoenzymes. Lipase was assayed spectrophotometrically; other enzymes were assayed using the API ZYM system (Analytab ...

Propionibacterium acnes Pericarditis
Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice, 2012Propionibacterium acnes typically colonizes the orophar- ynx and skin but may cause postoperative infections and opportunistic infections, especially when a foreign device is present. We report a case of pericarditis due to P. acnes complicated by tamponade.

Acne vaccines targeting Propionibacterium acnes.
Giornale italiano di dermatologia e venereologia : organo ufficiale, Societa italiana di dermatologia e sifilografia, 2010Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin diseases and can affect a large number of individuals at some point in their lives. Though the disease is multi-factorial, the Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), a member of resident skin microflora, is implicated in acne inflammation and associated with acne lesions ...

Skin: Acne and Propionibacterium acnes Genomics
2010Acne is an extremely common condition, experienced by approximately 80% of adolescents. Despite intense research efforts, the treatment of acne is often problematic, due to drugs with broad and multiple effects and undesired side effects. Main reason for this lack of suitable drugs is that the initiation and the precise chain of events in acne ...

Propionibacterium acnes endocarditis.
The Canadian journal of cardiology, 1995Propionibacterium acnes endocarditis is a rare disease. A case of prosthetic valve endocarditis involving P acnes complicated by multiple mycotic aneurysms is reported. A brief review of the literature is presented.

Propionibacterium acnes colonization in acne and nonacne.
Dermatology (Basel, Switzerland), 1998Propionibacterium acnes is a number of the resident bacterial flora and resides in sebaceous follicles. Age-related and body-dependent quantitative differences exist, indicating the role of sebum as an important ecological factor for P. acnes. Acne patients demonstrate marked increases in this organism which generates inflammation through a variety of ...

[Propionibacterium acnes adenitis].
Presse medicale (Paris, France : 1983), 2005Propionibacterium acnes is a gram-positive pleomorphic rod-shaped anaerobic saprophyte of the skin, mouth and upper respiratory tract. Although associated with acne vulgaris, it is otherwise reported as a human pathogen only rarely, in various infections, notably cutaneous and osteoarticular, and in endocarditis.
