The evolving role of Propionibacterium acnes in acne
Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, 2001Propionibacterium acnes is a member of the resident cutaneous flora. Sebaceous follicles involved in acne are characterized by the accumulation of abnormally desquamated corneocytes and excess sebum-the microcomedo. This environment provides ideal growth conditions for P acnes. Several orders of magnitude level of P acnes are found in microcomedos.

[Propionibacterium acnes infectious endocarditis].
Presse medicale (Paris, France : 1983), 1998Propionibacterium acnes, a Gram positive microaerophilic bacteria is considered to have a low level of virulence. Nevertheless, it can be associated with infective endocarditis. We report 2 cases and a review of the literature.The first man developed an acute prosthetic valve infective endocarditis and died.
