Preoperative Doxycycline Does Not Reduce Propionibacterium acnes in Shoulder Arthroplasty

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American volume, 2018
Background: Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) is the most common bacteria associated with infection after shoulder arthroplasty. These bacteria can be grown on culture of skin after standard preoperative skin preparation and antibiotics.

Porphyrinproduktion des propionibacterium acnes

Archives for Dermatological Research, 1977
Strains of P.a. were isolated from seborrheic filaments from 11 persons and investigated according to their production of porphyrins. After growing the organisms during a 5 resp. 10 days cultivation period on solid as well as in liquid culture medium the quantity and quality of the bacterial porphyrins were determined.

[Is acne caused by colonization with the "wrong" strain of Propionibacterium acnes? A review of the role of Propionibacterium acnes in acne].

Ugeskrift for laeger, 2008
Acne is still a major problem, and treatment options are far from ideal. A number of studies suggest that the species Propionibacterium acnes plays an important role in the pathogenesis, and new data point towards molecular mechanisms by which the organism is able to trigger the host inflammatory response. The current knowledge on P.

Benzoyl peroxide + chlorhexidine versus chlorhexidine alone skin preparation to reduce Propionibacterium acnes: a randomized controlled trial

ANZ journal of surgery, 2018
Traditional skin preparation for shoulder surgery is not specific for Propionibacterium acnes. Topical benzoyl peroxide for 48 h preoperatively has been shown to reduce the bacterial load of P. acnes on the skin.

Growth curve forPropionibacterium acnes

Current Eye Research, 1994
We established growth curves for Propionibacterium acnes isolates recovered from eyes with chronic postoperative endophthalmitis. The growth curve plotted the average of the duplicate bacterial concentration against time. The generation time for P. acnes calculated from the growth curves was approximately 5.1 hours. The growth of P.
