Proportional Counter Parameters
Advances in X-ray Analysis, 1972AbstractA flow proportional counter for ultrasoft x-ray applications has been constructed and used to measure proportional counter parameters in the ultrasoft x-ray region at atmospheric and subatmospheric pressures for counting gases of P-10 and methane.

Proportional counter as neutron detector
Radiation Measurements, 2001A technique to separate out the dose, and lineal energy spectra of neutrons and charged particles is described. It is based on using two proportional counters, one with a wall, and the other with similar characteristics but wall made from a non-hydrogen containing material. Results of a calibration in a neutron field are also shown.

Boron Trifluoride Proportional Counters
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1950Boron trifluoride proportional counters of calculable efficiency for neutron beam measurements are described. It has been found possible to obtain excellent pulse-size distributions with a filling of 60 cm of purified BF3 by ``soaking'' the counters for a long time (up to three months) with BF3 before putting in the final filling.

Proportional counter resolution
Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1968Abstract The present state of the theory of proportional counter resolution is reviewed. In any attempt to achieve the ultimate resolution indicated by present theories it is shown that anode wire uniformity is a critical factor and that window effects are of litte importance.

Characterisation of proportional counters
Radiation Measurements, 2006Abstract This paper describes the characterisation of a set of 3 He proportional counters differing in gas composition and pressure. Each step of the signal generation in the detector is analysed. Optimal working conditions are defined in order to choose the high voltage to be applied.

Operation of Proportional Counters
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1941The operation of proportional counters is described. The voltage region for proportional operation is determined, and a procedure is described for determination of the amount of ionization in the initial ionizing event.

Delays in proportional counters
Physica, 1957Synopsis Delays in proportional counters, filled with A alcohol, A n-pentane, Kr alcohol, Kr n-pentane and Xe n-pentane mixtures, are determined in dependency of the voltage on the counters. From these data the values of the electron mobilities are derived in the region of F/p at about 0.1 or 0.2.

A Stabilizer for Proportional Counters
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1950It is pointed out that proportional counters as conventionally used are not precision instruments over long periods. The introduction of an α-particle group into the counter enables high precision to be attained by deriving control of the voltage applied to the counter from this group. It is shown to be possible to derive such control, compensating for

Distortion of Proportional Counter Spectra by Counter Poisons
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1962Distorted spectra were obtained when the Mn K x-ray peak was observed in a proportional counter filled with CO2 and small pressures of the counter poison O2. The spectra can be explained with the assumption that the only effect of the poison is to capture electrons as they drift toward the anode.
